U.K. to ease carry-on restriction

Britain has announced it will begin phasing out the one-bag carry-on rule that’s proved frustrating to passengers who can carry two bags onboard almost everywhere else in the world. That’s the word according to this USA Today article.

That’s good news for passengers traveling through the U.K. since cramming two bags into one or checking the larger piece has been a source of frustration for travelers coming through the U.K. (from the U.S. to other points in Europe, for example).

Why the change? Well, the rule went into effect back in 2006 after a foiled bombing plot—the same one that precipitated the restrictions on liquids. The policy was meant to be a temporary measure while screening processes were improved. According to the article, the rule may be relaxed as soon as January 7.
