Northwest cancels flight after pilot swears at passengers

“Good Friday” wasn’t a great day for travelers aboard a canceled Northwest flight. A Detroit-bound flight last Friday was canceled after the pilot swore at a passenger.

Reportedly, as passengers boarded Flight 1190 in Las Vegas, the captain was overheard using “rude language” during a cell-phone conversation held in the front lavatory. After being confronted about his behavior, the captain swore at the passenger, prompting local police to respond to the situation.

Police determined the captain was sober (a refreshing change these days), but Northwest canceled the flight anyway. Remarkably, it issued an apology to impacted travelers, provided meals and accommodations, and will provide other compensation as well.

Now, who thinks we need an air passenger’s bill of rights protecting travelers from abusive airline employees?
