Low-cost no more? Southwest jacks prices by up to $10 each way

Southwest is trying to offset $600 million in additional fuel costs this year by raising its prices. Not surprisingly, seven other airlines have followed suit.

Those would be Continental, Northwest, US Airways, Delta, American, and United, which along with Southwest have added up to $10 each way on flights. According to a report from Airwise.com, Alaska Airlines has also raised prices but claims it’s not a “direct match” of Southwest’s move.

This is Southwest’s second price increase of the year, but the first to break through the magic $299 cap the airline had placed on all one-way fares since 2002.
