Until recently, JetBlue’s fares were available for booking only on JetBlue.com. But due to a recent deal, consumers will now be able to book JetBlue’s fares on Travelocity and through travel agencies. The airline has signed five-year agreements with global distribution system (GDS) suppliers Sabre and Galileo. The agreements will allow full access to JetBlue’s flight inventory for travel agencies that use either reservations system. Sabre-owned website Travelocity is currently displaying JetBlue’s fares as well.
Although JetBlue pulled its fares from all GDS systems in 2004, this move isn’t surprising. JetBlue has begun struggling financially, posting a loss for 2005, so it’s natural that the airline would want to fill seats any way it can. Sebastian White, a spokesman for JetBlue, explains, “Being in Sabre makes it easier for travel agents and corporate travel managers to books seats on JetBlue flights…We wanted to make it as easy as possible for our business travelers to make their flight arrangements, so we went where they are.”
The addition of JetBlue’s fares to Travelocity will make the online travel agency’s offerings more comprehensive, which in turn will make for easier fare comparisons. However, Southwest’s fares continue to be available only on Southwest.com, so Travelocity isn’t a one-stop shop for fare comparisons just yet.
