Fall foliage report: Atlantic Canada

New England dominates the popular imagination when it comes to the vivid colors of fall, but Canada’s provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island offer the same crimsons, golds, oranges, and scarlets each autumn.

The trees don’t know or care which country they’re in, but travelers looking for the colors of autumn can take advantage of prices that drop by up to 35 percent in the fall and a U.S. dollar that goes farther. If you’ve looked at accommodations prices in Vermont in autumn, you know that a price drop instead of a steep price increase is as rare as it is welcome.

As a value travel strategy, this makes the most sense for people who already have to travel to witness the fall colors. For instance, someone who lives in Florida is already going to have to fly to cooler lands to enjoy maximum fall, and by plane Canada isn’t much farther than Boston.

New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island have specific information about fall foliage. Newfoundland & Labrador has more general information about travel and resources.
