Delta's pilots authorize strike

Delta’s pilots today voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike if the airline voids its contract and imposes new pay cuts. “The results of this ballot will send the strongest message yet that if Delta’s senior executives are successful in their misguided attempt to reject our contract, we will strike,” said the chairman of the union’s executive committee, Lee Moak, in his memo to pilots.

Nearly 95 percent of Delta’s pilots voted in favor of the strike. That doesn’t mean they will strike, only that they plan to if the union and the airline are unable to come to agreement on contract discussions. An arbitration panel is set to rule on the contract issue by April 15 if the two sides do not agree beforehand.

Delta says a strike will put it out of business.
