Delta, KLM enter codesharing agreement

Delta and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced yesterday they will start codesharing beyond their hubs. Codesharing refers to flights that may be operated by one airline but ticketed by another; for example, a Europe flight operated by KLM may carry passengers with tickets sold by Delta.

Delta will initially issue codeshare tickets to 10 KLM markets, including Helsinki, Oslo, and Hamburg. KLM will issue codeshare tickets to 14 Delta markets. Pending government approval, the airlines hope to expand this arrangement.

Travelers should be aware that a flight may be operated either by the U.S. carrier whose code appears on listings and tickets for the flight, or by another airline, which may be foreign, that has a code-share relationship with the U.S. airline in question.
