Day of the Dead festivities in U.S. cities

Even if you aren’t heading to Mexico or Central America for the Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead festivities on November 2, you can still find a celebration closer to home. Houston, Phoenix, San Francisco, Santa Fe, and Seattle are among the cities hosting events in honor of the day. Not all take place on November 2 though; some festivals are scheduled for the weekend of October 28.

Food, live entertainment, crafts, and processions are part of many of the events. In San Francisco, there will be large altars in Garfield Park, where participants can bring offerings in honor of the dead. Seattle’s event will have a strong art, music, and performance focus.
