Montana: Hiking, Fishing, Rafting, More From $64/Night

History buffs and outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do in Missoula. The Wild West lives on, and remnants can be found in the area's architecture, decorations, and stories from long ago. The natural surroundings provide ample opportunities for hiking, fishing, rafting, and wildlife viewing.

I've tracked down several properties that offer a good value for your weekend getaway, each with reasonable prices and/or a little something extra to make your stay memorable.

  • Located about 30 minutes outside of Missoula, the Ghost Rails Inn offers a comfortable retreat with a spirited past. Built in 1909, the inn was originally a stopping point for those riding the rails. The railroad is long gone, but the B&B still serves as a safe haven for travelers. Rooms start at $64 per night, and include a full breakfast and afternoon tea and treats.
  • The Blue Mountain Bed and Breakfast invites guests to enjoy the great outdoors by offering scenic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, as well as 20 acres of wildlife habitat nearby. Accommodations start at $105, and the rooms' names and decorations reflect the area's splendor.
  • Situated in the heart of the downtown area, the Gibson Mansion Bed and Breakfast offers four guestrooms that combine Victorian elegance with modern convenience. Rooms start at $120 per night. Each morning, guests awake to a coffee/tea tray with freshly baked scones before enjoying a full "wreck your diet" breakfast served in the main dining room.
