New York City can be as expensive, or as cheap, as you like. It came as no surprise that when I checked several providers to see what offerings are available for October, I found quite a range of prices and hotel classes. Departures from Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles were tested, and packages include airfare, two nights' accommodations, and all taxes and fees, except for Delta Vacations, which exclude air taxes and fees.
Vacation Deals
Sample prices for October are:
- JetBlue's rates start at $280 from Boston, $364 from Chicago, and $455 from Los Angeles.
- Expedia's prices start at $170 from Boston (arrive and return from La Guardia), $219 from Chicago (depart O'Hare, return Midway, arrive and leave from La Guardia), and $285 from Los Angeles.
- Travelocity offers packages from $205 from Boston (arrive and return from La Guardia), $250 from Chicago (arrive and return from La Guardia), and $316 from Los Angeles.
- Delta Vacations has packages starting at $280 from Boston, $294 from Chicago, and $360 from Los Angeles. Breakfast is included in prices.
The listed rates are per person based on double occupancy. Single travelers may pay a supplementary charge for each package. Availability is limited.
Which Deal Offers the Best Value?
If the lowest price determines which package you'll book, I found that Expedia had the cheapest rates on all researched routes. For the most part prices have dropped since this summer, with the most noteworthy price drops on the Los Angeles-New York route. Expedia's package from Los Angeles is nearly half its summer rate. Other providers show the most significant cost reduction on their Los Angeles packages, with other routes showing minimal changes. JetBlue's packages even increased in cost from Boston and Chicago. Many of the packages researched included hotel accomodations in locations just outside of the city. This drastically decreases the cost of a trip if you're willing to travel a couple of extra miles. It's always a good idea to compare costs before making a reservation, and you can use our price-comparison tool to compare vacation prices from multiple travel providers.
Another important factor to consider is the type of lodging included. To compare hotel ratings, visit SmarterTravel.com's sister site, TripAdvisor. Additionally, rates vary with departure airport. Look into fares from nearby airports to find the price and location most convenient for you.
Most providers don't list booking deadlines, and not all packages may be available for the dates you wish to visit. Be flexible with your travel dates to find the best deal for your Vegas vacation.
