Murfreesboro, Tennessee, offers a plethora of Civil War attractions for history buffs to explore. Famous for the nearby Stones River National Battlefield, this Southern town has plenty to discover. The earthen work Fortress Rosecrans, built by Union troops during the war, is now part of the National Park Service. Oaklands Historic House Museum is also a notable stop in the city of Murfreesboro; this antebellum plantation house hosted both Union and Confederate armies and was visited by Jefferson Davis in 1862. Visitors will also find entertainment in Downtown Square, home to the Rutherford County Courthouse as well as specialty shops and restaurants.

Murfreesboro is located 35 miles from Nashville International Airport on Interstate 24.
