Murfreesboro, Tennessee, offers a plethora of Civil War attractions for history buffs to explore. Famous for the nearby Stones River National Battlefield, this Southern town has plenty to discover. The earthen work Fortress Rosecrans, built by Union troops during the war, is now part of the National Park Service. Oaklands Historic House Museum is also a notable stop in the city of Murfreesboro; this antebellum plantation house hosted both Union and Confederate armies and was visited by Jefferson Davis in 1862.
