With comfortable temperatures throughout the year, Punta Cana is a popular destination for beach activities anytime. The most popular time to go is in the winter, when many people from up north escape the chillier weather. Late spring and summer are the least popular times to visit, because fewer people come during the city's warmer and wetter months. However, August can get busy, when local schools are on break. Fall can be an ideal time to go as the weather is mild and crowds are minimal.

Punta Cana experiences a tropical climate, with a diverse mix of microclimates. The annual average highs fluctuate between 81 and 87 degrees. Punta Cana gets busy during major holidays, especially Easter and New Year's, and in August, when children are on vacation from school. February draws many visitors for Carnival.
