Whether you call it Motor City or Motown, there's no denying that Detroit has impacted American culture. One of the Midwest's oldest cities, Detroit was originally established as a trading post before it became the home for America's auto industry and the sounds of Diana Ross, the Temptations, and others.

Today, Detroit tourism centers around its revitalized downtown. Cultural institutions such as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, which performs in the restored Max M. Fisher Music Center, and sports teams, such as Detroit Red Wings hockey and Detroit Lions football, are favorites among visitors and locals alike.
