With warm and sunny weather year-round, San Juan can be a perfect getaway. The most popular time to visit is winter, when many people escape the dreary, cold days up north.
The least popular time to go is during the summer and fall, when hurricane season is in effect and the weather in the North gets hot. However, hotel prices drop and visitors thin out, making for a more affordable and quiet vacation.
- high season: mid-December to mid-April
- low season: mid-April to mid-December
Year-round, average high temperatures are in the 80s. The warmest months are June through October, when average highs reach 88 degrees. Hurricane season lasts from June through November, with the most precipitation typically in November.
San Juan gets busy from mid-December through mid-April, especially during the San Sebastian Street Festival in January, which attracts local crowds. June and July are popular months for locals to visit the beaches as schools in Puerto Rico are on break.
Hotels, shops, and attractions remain open throughout the year. However, many shops and attractions will close for certain holidays such as Christmas, Three Kings Day (January 6), Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Thanksgiving Day.
When to Save
Prices remain fairly consistent throughout the year. However, hotel rates peak during the high season, and drop during the low season.
