Getting to Providence

by Carl Unger, SmarterTravel.com Staff

Providence is easily accessible thanks to nearby T.F. Green Airport, and due to the city's proximity to major transportation routes through the Northeast Corridor.

T.F. Green is located in Warwick, Rhode Island, about eight miles south of Providence. The airport is served by most of the major legacy lines, as well as low-cost carriers Southwest and Spirit. There isn't much in the way of public transportation between the airport and the city, so you're probably better off renting a car.

Visitors can also fly into Boston, which is a little over an hour north of Providence by car. Boston is also linked to Providence through both the local commuter rail and Amtrak. Greyhound travels between Providence and cities throughout the Northeast.

For those driving to Providence, Interstate 95 runs right through town and is convenient to most of the "downcity" area.
