Bored of beige rugs and hotel rooms that look the same no matter where you are in the world? Then maybe it's time to consider unique and affordable vacation rentals. Whether you're looking to sleep in a tree or castle, here are six rentals around the world sure to capture your imagination. Best of all, these places are within reach, with rates lower than $100 per night per person.

Tree House in Costa Rica

Look forward to an elevated experience at the Playa Selva Tree House in Mal Pais, Costa Rica. And it's not your typical tree house, either. This one sleeps three people, and has a full bath with hot water, a kitchenette, and a balcony. Perched in a Banyan tree, the tree house is the perfect place to catch a glimpse of howler monkeys, tropical birds, and other native wildlife. There's a swimming pool on the property, and the rental is a short walk from the beach. Rates vary between $50 and $65 a night, based on the season.

Deep in this Tuscan wonderland our daughter hosted the most romantic wedding since Mama Mia ... As parents we had the privacy of Casa Quintino whilst groups of friends who came from around the world could stay within walking distance in other farmhouses along the same road. Endless long meals at lovely reunions on the shady veranda overlooking pure arcadia. Litres of good cheap wine flowed and the charm of Casa Quintino was infectious. Bacchus would have been delighted.
