Reap the benefits of staying off-Strip in Las Vegas

Like moths to a flame, most people head directly to the bright neon lights of the Las Vegas Strip. However, those who can resist the flashing glitz will be rewarded with cheap rates, big rooms, and a relaxing trip.

There are several places to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas Boulevard, including the popular downtown area, where you’ll find the Fremont Street Experience. This historic street used to be the place to go in Sin City, and it’s staking its hotspot claim once again. Come watch the overhead screens for a free entertaining light show before heading to some of the best-paying slot machines in town.

Hotel casinos like the Golden Nugget and the Four Queens provide clean rooms at reasonable rates starting at as little as $51 per night.

The main reason to stay off-Strip, however, is fewer crowds, which equals discounts on drinks, shows, and (occasionally) food.

Plus, if you simply must go to the Strip, you can always hop on the Citizens Area Transit’s (CAT) Deuce bus for $2 one-way or $5 for an all-day pass. This way, you can still experience the thrill of new Las Vegas while enjoying old Vegas at the latter’s prices.

You can also stay further off the Strip at places in Henderson, Green Valley, North Las Vegas, and Summerlin. It’s more difficult to get to the Strip, but you’ll have plenty to keep you entertained at spots like Green Valley Ranch Resort.
