Reader JKinchen said, "Bowman's beach on Sanibel Island, Florida, is our favorite. It is situated in a state park so the views are uncluttered by condos or houses on the beach. There are tremendous amounts of wildlife—we've seen dolphins, manatees, ospreys, ibises, herons, and pelicans all in the same day. The shelling is legendary—the whole beach is just pulverized shell sand along with the beautiful specimens that get washed up. The surf is easy and pleasant—great for kids and shelling. But most spectacularly, the sunsets are amazing. Most people on the island plan their day so as to be on the beach at sunset. More days than not—it is truly breathtaking."

I had long known of the great shelling, but did not know how fantastic a place this is for nature viewing. All kinds of birds and dolphins can be seen every day. A day at the beach is a sight delight!"
