Outer Banks Sand Dunes

Outer Banks, North Carolina

With outdoor activities, historic sites, and soft sandy beaches, the Outer Banks is a popular vacation spot among families, couples, and seniors. Our readers believe its claim to fame is its staying power, and visit it time and again.

Reader Lorri Robey said, "The very best beach in the world is in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The town specifically is Kill Devil Hills. Just hearing the name brings back the best memories. We have been vacationing here every August for more than twenty years. Family and friends relaxing and having fun on the warm sunny sand, playing beach games; staying out on the beach until sunset, laughing, talking and making more memories. Just the thought can warm up a winter's day with anticipation of the summer to come. The water is warm, the waves are big and so much fun to ride. The breeze is always blowing with kites flying, sea grass on the dunes swaying. The days are perfect for strolling the beach, or playing with friends, or doing nothing at all, just simply taking a nap with the sounds of the surf rolling as you drift off to sleep. This truly is our paradise!"

Reader kd33 added, "My favorite beach to go to is Cape Hatteras National Seashore, North Carolina. There are miles and miles of private white sandy beaches—great dolphin watching and wind sailing."
