Editorial Assistant Kate Sitarz joined SmarterTravel in September 2009. When not fact-checking or copyediting, she can be found, camera in hand, romping around both new and familiar places. Her favorite travel destinations include National Parks (Acadia, Arches, Zion), Paris, Brussels (beer and chocolate), Berlin, Venice, and anywhere with quiet woods to explore. Kate believes that walking and walking and walking (and sometimes getting lost), eating local food, and talking to residents are the best ways to understand a place.

Kate was born and raised near New Bedford, Massachusetts, and swears the area has some of the best restaurants in the world, in addition to having a great location with its proximity to beaches, Cape Cod, Providence, and Boston. She holds a bachelor's degree in writing, literature, and publishing from Emerson College.
