Senior Editor Christine Sarkis joined SmarterTravel in 2003. She focuses on travel trends and is always on the lookout for the next great destination.
Her work has also been published in Spain from a Backpack, a collection of short travel stories, and The Best Women's Travel Writing 2008.
Christine swears by off-peak travel, and enjoys regional cuisine and off-the-beaten-path destinations. Her favorite travel destinations are the British Isles for their ritualized 4 p.m. snack and curious town names; Catalonia in Spain for its architecture, language, and preponderance of Zara stores; and Kyoto, Japan, for its quiet side streets, sticky rice confections, and deep bathtubs. Not content to merely visit some destinations, she has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area; Santa Barbara, California; London, England; Paris, France; and Cambridge, Massachusetts.
