Starwood's 'Bring on the Nights' Promotion

Starwood's last promotion awarded double points, plus 2,500 bonus points after every five nights, up to 10,000 bonus points after 20 nights. As incentives go, that's pretty attractive. The offer suffered from a significant downside, though: a long list of non-participating properties, including around 70 in the U.S.

The new promotion, dubbed "Bring on the Nights," has addressed the problem of non-participating hotels. But it also features a much weaker offer.

Offer Details

Between January 5, 2014, and April 30, 2013, Starwood Preferred Guest members can earn 2,500 bonus points after every five nights, up to a maximum of 10,000 points after 20 nights, plus an additional 5,000 points after 25 nights.

Refreshingly, all 1,100-plus Starwood hotels are participating in the promotion -- no need to consult a list of non-participating properties before booking.

Deal or No Deal

Promotion pros

  • Long promotion period -- almost four months
  • No hotel exclusions

Promotion cons

  • Lackluster incentive: 15,000 bonus points after 25 nights
  • Five-night minimum to earn any bonus points

Reader Reality Check

It's clear that Starwood designed a weaker promotion in order to ensure the participation of the largest possible number of hotels. Is the result worth the trade-off? Or would you have preferred a stronger offer, but fewer eligible hotels?
