Best Western's 1st-Quarter Offer: 1,500 Bonus Points
Best Western's first points promotion of 2014 kicks off this week with a modest per-stay bonus.
Between February 3 and April 6, Best Western Rewards members can earn 1,500 bonus points per stay. Elite Rewards members earn 2,000 bonus points per stay.
Qualifying stays must be booked on bestwestern.com, the Best Western To Go mobile app, or via Best Western's mobile website.
Somewhat confusingly, the bonus points are being co-promoted with a discount, "up to 20%" off the Internet-only rates. But they are entirely separate offers.
Registration is required to earn the bonus, but not for the discount.
Deal or No Deal
Best Western Rewards members normally earn 10 points for every $1 spent. So earning a 1,500-point bonus for a one-night $100 stay would amount to earning 2.5 times the normal points. Better than nothing, but probably not a game-changer for most.
As for the discount on Internet-only rates, look before you leap. In a handful of random test-bookings on Best Western's site, I found Internet rates that ranged from slightly lower to slightly higher than AARP rates. But I couldn't find any Internet-only rates that were fully 20 percent lower than the published Best Available Rate. The "up to" in the offer headline keeps this from straying over the line into deceptive advertising, but only just.
This is not among the more lucrative bonuses for winter hotel stays.
