From Delta: More Frequent Flyer Miles for Shopping

‘Tis the season … to earn. Or so says Delta, with its new 50 percent bonus on miles earned with select SkyMiles partners.

Through January 15, 2010, SkyMiles members can earn those extra miles for eligible purchases at the following:

1-800-FLOWERS.COM; Bensingers Fine Cleaners, Memphis; CIBT; Energy Plus; FTD; Harry and David; Neiman Marcus Group InCircle program; Orkin; SCANA Energy; Shutterfly; SkyMall; SkyMiles Dining (Rewards Network); SkyMiles Dining, Japan. SkyMiles Shopping; SkyMiles Shopping, UK; SkyMiles Shopping, Japan; Teleflora; Thanks Again; Vinesse; Audience Rewards: The Official Rewards Program of Broadway; Bose; Mozy; Netflix; SkyMiles Subscriptions; SkyMiles Wireless; dentalplans.com; LasikPlus; Nutrisystem; Delta Vacations; SkyMiles Cruises (cruises only)

To earn the bonus, program members must register prior to buying.

Deal or No Deal

At 50 percent, this is a nice bonus. It’s available at a wide range of companies. And the promotion is in effect long enough to be useable. All good.

Still, if you’re not married to Delta miles, it’s worth comparing offers from other airlines. American and United, for example, both offer bonus miles for shopping at some of their mileage mall partners through December.

So, depending on the retailer’s normal mileage payout, and the bonus, that Sony Playstation might generate more frequent flyer miles if bought elsewhere. And then there’s the purchase price of the Playstation to consider.

This may be the season to earn. But it always pays to compare.
