Your Air France Flight May Be Canceled: Here’s What You Need to Know

As we enter week two of the Air France pilots’ strike, the French flag carrier continues to warn passengers of possible flight disruptions. Last week, the airline grounded more than half of its flights, and the company is losing tens of millions in revenue by the day.

As of today, Air France is operating just 41 percent of its regularly scheduled flights. There’s no end to the strike in sight.

The airline’s pilots’ unions went on strike after Air France-KLM announced its plans to beef up its low-cost carrier, Transvania. In short, the pilots anticipate the move to a low-cost model will affect pay and working conditions. The strike is huge: This is Europe’s second-largest carrier, and it’s the biggest labor dispute that Air France has seen since 1998.

Air France flights operated by partner airlines are not affected by the strike. But there’s a good chance folks traveling on Air France-operated flights this week will see some cancellations and delays. You can guard against the worst by moving your travel dates.

On the airline’s website, a post advises passengers to check their Air France flight status before heading to the airport, and outlines change-fee waivers. Ahead of any schedule disruptions, passengers have the option to make itinerary changes at no charge. Flyers traveling through September 26 may move their trips to another date through October 12. You can rebook on the Air France website.

Those who wish to cancel flights or to rebook a trip for a date later than October 12 will recieve a nonrefundable travel voucher, valid for use for one year on Air France or KLM. You’ll have to call Air France if you wish to cancel.

If you didn’t rebook or cancel, and your flight is delayed by five hours or more, visit the “Consult/modify my bookings” section of the Air France site to get a refund. Good luck.
