TSA now screening large electronics separately

If you’re like me, you have the same routine whenever you arrive in an airport security line. You take everything that could possibly set off the X-ray machine out of your pockets and stuff it into your carry-on bag. You then place that bag and your shoes on the conveyor belt and proceed without a beep through the doorway. With the government’s latest rule change, the process may now be a bit more confusing for some travelers.

According to a report in USA Today, The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is now requiring passengers to remove larger electronic devices such as “video game consoles and DVD players” from their bags prior to screening, though “Small electronic items, such as cell phones, MP3 players, iPods and portable video game systems do not have to be removed from passenger’s carrying cases.”

On the one hand, the TSA has scaled back some of its stricter policies this summer, but because this rule is new and there are already enough people unfamiliar with the current requirements, slower lines may be the result. Here’s hoping the folks in your next security line read this blog entry.
