The clear verdict of our summer travel poll? SmarterTravel readers will be on the move this summer.
Great deals trump economic turmoil, at least when it comes to summer travel. Of the 700 who voted, a whopping 87 percent of you said you were planning a vacation, while only six percent weren't planning to travel at all.
The "staycation" is so last year, and your votes confirm it. More than 60 percent of you will be traveling farther than 1,000 miles for summer travel, and almost 70 percent of you will be flying to your destination. A quarter of you will be enjoying life on the open road and getting to your destination by car.
All told, only 30 percent of people who took the poll are planning on spending less on a vacation this summer; the rest of you are budgeting about the same amount or more than last year. But for those of you who aren't going on vacation this summer, the main reason for staying home is financial concerns. Only four percent are not traveling because of health concerns, and another 12 percent of you just don't have the time (or the time off) to squeeze in a vacation.
No matter where you're planning on going, or how much you're budgeting, value is going to be the name of the game this summer. Luckily, getting the most for every hard earned travel dollar is easier this year than last, with deals and sales coming at consumers from all angles. Here are some of the summer offers we've written about recently:
