JetBlue Launches Twitter Deals

It's all in the name: JetBlueCheeps. That's the moniker given to JetBlue's new account on Twitter, which the carrier will use to broadcast last-minute deals to the Twittersphere (man, seems we're just making up new words every day, doesn't it?). In its first day of tweeting deals, JetBlue offered some tantalizing fares, including $9 from Boston to New York, and $19 from New York to Chicago. All the flights tweeted were one-way for travel this weekend.

So here's a question: Should you be on Twitter? With JetBlue and United tweeting fares and travel writers such as Rick Seaney and Wendy Perrin passing along deals, Twitter is quickly becoming a source for savings. Of course, we're on Twitter too, but you probably already knew that.

No, I'm not on Twitter and don't intend to open an account. I don't think it's reasonable to restrict deals, especially for loyal JetBlue frequent flyers. I'll be notifying the company of my unhappiness with this bias. There must be many of us 'blue hairs,' [no pun intended] that are computer literate but have limitations.

I agree with Kathleen, not everyone wants to go on Twitter, etc.

I totally agree with Kathleen; I'm not going to get a Twitter account. I just wish the airlines would let you call, speak to a nice agent who would help you, pay a few extra bucks for personal service, and provide you with a comparable fare that the "Twitterbugs" get. So there!

I think it's great. But then, I'm not exactly afraid of Twitter -- I have 5 different accounts!

Lots of companies are advertising their deals on Twitter. It's a great travel resource for lastminute deals especially.
