Free skiing and snowshoeing for newbies

Not an avid winter outdoors enthusiast, but still want a reason to get out in the snow? The 13th annual Winter Trails Day offers winter sports novices the chance to try out cross-country skiing or snowshoeing for free. This year’s event takes place on January 12 in most event locations and on February 16 in Estes Park, Colorado. You can find events in New England, the Mid-Atlantic region, the Midwest, Rocky Mountain states, and in the West.

This one sounds like a fun event, and is a great way for kids and adults to try out these sports. It can also be a great way to introduce the young ones to an activity they can enjoy for years. And, unlike pricey downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are relatively affordable winter sports, so if one day isn’t enough, you can go back for more without breaking the bank.
