30 years after his death, Elvis Presley will live again in the hearts of his fans in Memphis, Tennessee. Every year around August 16, people gather from all over the world to pay tribute to the King of Rock & Roll, and this year marks the 30th anniversary of his death, insuring that this Elvis Week will be bigger than ever before.
From August 11 through the19th, the week-long celebrations will include all things Elvis, from a film festival highlighting his greatest hits to a scrap-booking class on how to create a King keepsake.
It isn't, however, all fun and games. A mass and memorial service will take place on August 15 and 16, where fans, friends, and family can gather to pay their respects to the fallen singer. On Wednesday, August 15, a candlelight vigil welcomes people to walk the path from the Graceland gates to Elvis' grave in silence and remembrance.
On August 16, the anniversary of his death, Elvis, via video, will once again take the stage. Surrounded by a group of musicians and singers he once knew or played with, the King will sing to his adoring fans during a memorable performance in downtown Memphis. Elvis may have left the building, but his memory, music, and digital images will live on forever, and Memphis is the place to be to honor the legend.
