Delta vs. Alaska: Which’ll Win the Battle for Seattle?

Could Delta be regretting its decision to attack Alaska Airlines at its primary-hub airport, Seattle?

Since Delta began bulking up its services to and from Seattle, Alaska has responded with frequent-flyer program initiatives and its own new flights, including the launch of new or expanded service to Delta strongholds like Salt Lake City and New York.

The latest move in the ongoing tit-for-tat is Alaska’s new service between Seattle and three Delta destinations in the Southeast:

  • Nashville – daily service, beginning September 23
  • Raleigh-Durham – daily service, beginning October 1
  • Charleston – 4x/week service, beginning November 16

So far, there are no bonus-mile offers in place to promote the new flights. But stay tuned; that may well change.

At the rate it’s expanding, Alaska will soon have grown itself into a national carrier. Thanks (or no thanks) to Delta.
