Delta is now allowing customers to check in for flights via Facebook, thanks its Ticket Counter app. Ticket Counter debuted last summer primarily as a vessel for booking flights, but now users can check in, check their flight status, view in-flight amenities, and see their SkyMiles information.
Delta says this is the first time travelers will be able to check in via Facebook.
Personally, I don't really see the benefit of checking in on Facebook—if you're checking in online, why is Facebook more convenient than, say, delta.com? Of course, if you're a Facebook addict, it's one less reason to meander away.
One benefit, says Delta, is the ability to share information about your trip with friends and family. At Delta's blog, an airline representative writes, "We also know how much you value connecting with friends and family. That’s why we added a simple feature that allows you to 'share' your travel information right from Facebook. So whether you’re planning a vacation with your friends or simply sharing your itinerary with a friend or loved one on Facebook, you can do it all without having to send a separate e-mail—and it’s just as safe and secure as delta.com."
Readers, would you use Delta's Facebook app to check in, or will you stick to more conventional avenues, such as Delta's website or its airport kiosks?
