Daily Daydream: The Devil’s Crown, Galapagos Islands

Out of all the amazing snorkeling spots in the Galapagos Islands, the Devil’s Crown is unique. An extinct collapsed volcanic cone, this area attracts a number of brightly colored fish, sea turtles, and many other marine creatures. Stay within the crown, as Hammerhead Sharks congregate outside of it. From your boat, you’ll also be able to see many dolphins.

The area’s nickname comes from the jagged rocks, which form a fierce-looking circle. Stick to the shallower side where the winds are less intense.

Make sure you go on a live-aboard cruise to the Galapagos Islands if you want to swim at the Devil’s Crown. Day cruises are no longer allowed to drop off snorkelers.

Where is it? Off the northern coast of Floreana Island, in the Galapagos. The main Galapagos airport is Baltra (check prices).

Where to Stay? You’ll have to stay aboard a boat tour to check out this site. Read reviews of operators here.

What Else Should I Know? The current can be strong at Devil’s Crown, so only dive in here if you’re a good swimmer!

Who’s it For? Snorklers, divers, strong swimmers.
