AirTran adds a new East Coast route

AirTran doesn't usually generate the same kind of buzz as fellow low-cost lines JetBlue and Southwest, but it has quietly become one of the largest budget carriers in the country. Late last week, the airline expanded its route network yet again with the addition of its Boston/Rochester nonstop service.

AirTran began flying two daily nonstops between the two cities on July 6. It's the seventh nonstop destination out of Boston for AirTran and the sixth out of Rochester. The airline serves 50 destinations and its hub is Atlanta, where it frequently engages in head-to-head fare wars with Delta.
