Airline Announces Plan to Only Hire Skinny Female Flight Attendants

Airlines are trying to save money any way they can these days—and one airline is aiming to reduce the amount of weight on-board their planes. (Lightening the load on planes can save money on fuel.)

GoAir, an Indian airline, has announced that the company plans to only hire lightweight, female flight attendants from now on, reports the Huffington Post. (The logic is that females are generally lighter than men.) GoAir is expanding their operations over the next few years, and estimate that they will be hiring 2,000 cabin attendants. This seems like gender discrimination to us—if GoAir is really concerned about lightening the airplane load, wouldn’t they just set a general weight limit for staff?

Do you think airlines have the right to hire crew based on appearance or gender? Tell us in the comments.
