Seabourn orders two new luxury ships

Over the past few years, the mainstream and premium lines have been racing to see who can introduce the most new ships. While they have been churning out new-builds, all has been quiet on the luxury front. Until now.

At a press conference in Italy today, Seabourn revealed that it has ordered two new luxury ships to be delivered in spring 2009 and 2010. The sister ships will feature 225 suites, 90 percent of which will have balconies. The new ships will more than double the cruise line’s capacity, now carried by three ships.

This announcement is great news for luxury cruisers. Soon, they will have more options for luxury cruising as the two new ships accommodate a growing interest in high-end vacations at sea. The question remains, however, as to whether other luxury lines will rise to the competition and order new ships of their own. Ultra-modern luxury vessels have the potential for amazing onboard amenities, so we’ll just have to wait and see what these new breeds offer us.
