New spa cabins on the Costa Mediterranea

[% 10816 | | Costa %] recently announced details of its 2008-2009 Caribbean cruising season. The itinerary details aren’t anything new—the Costa Mediterranea and Costa Fortuna will sail seven-night eastern, western, and southeastern Caribbean itineraries out of Ft. Lauderdale. What is intriguing is Costa’s expansion of its ground-breaking spa cabins to an older ship.

In April 2008, 44 of the Mediterranea’s cabins will become spa cabins. Guests who book these staterooms will receive a personal wellness consultation, three free spa treatments and priority reservations, two free fitness or meditation classes, and access to the spa restaurant. The cabins themselves will be like mini-spas, with aromatherapy diffusers, special shower and air filters, and a mini bar loaded with healthy drinks and snacks.

Only the new Costa Concordia and Costa Serena offer the Samsara Suites, so the Mediterranea will be the first older ship in the fleet to add spa cabins. If the special staterooms prove popular, perhaps Costa will add spa cabins to all its ships. That would be good news for spa junkies who like to “cruise Italian style.”
