Fly Business Class for Thanksgiving in Europe
KLM and Lufthansa announced really big discounts on business class round-trips to Europe over the Thanksgiving weekend, plus sales on Air China, OpenSkies, Air New Zealand, and Air France.
For KLM and Lufthansa over Thanksgiving, sample round-trips include $1,869 Boston-London, $1,789 New York-London, and $2,090 San Francisco-Frankfurt. These are all about half the least expensive restricted business class fares and less than a third of the full fare. Buy by October 27, depart November 20 through 25, and return November 25 through 30. I didn't find any other lines that were matching this deal, but they might.
In other business class promotions, two Asian lines are offering minor business class discounts. Through December 31, for example, Air China will fly you San Francisco-Beijing round trip for $3,750, compared with a regular fare of $6,660. Through March 31, China Airlines' round-trip fare from Los Angeles to Taipei drops to $4,087 (from $5,307).
Ongoing promotions: OpenSkies continues its apparently never-ending "sale" to Paris. The current rate is $971 plus tax each way from New York to Paris. Singapore Airlines continues the $2,319 round-trip rate for business class on its one daily New York-Frankfurt flight. And Delta continues its 50-day advance purchase business discounts to Europe.
On the premium economy front, Air New Zealand is promoting a round-trip fare of $1,349 plus tax from Los Angeles to London. Buy by September 20, and travel October 31 through November 23.
Ongoing premium economy promotions include Air France ($1,362 plus tax round-trip Boston-Paris, for example) through March 25, and JAL ($2,309 San Francisco-Tokyo).
In most cases, comparable fares are available from other North American gateways to other international destinations. And competitors may be matching selectively.
