Alaska Air Discounts Fall Award Flights
Over the past few years, Alaska has been among the most prolific award discounters. That isn't saying much, as there's been little in the way of award discounting among other airlines. Still, at least Alaska was trying.
With this latest award discount, Alaska can claim not only to be trying, but to be trying harder.
Between August 30 and October 31, members of Alaska Airlines' Mileage Plan can book select award flights for up to 60 percent fewer miles.
The key word here, of course, is "select." That's often code for "just a few flights (and you wouldn't be interested in them anyway)."
In this case, however, there's an extensive list of flights offered for fewer miles. More than we can comfortably print here, in fact.
For example, from Alaska's Seattle hub, award flights are discounted to San Jose, Oakland, Orange County, San Antonio, Colorado Springs, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, San Diego, Houston, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. The discounts vary, from 20 percent to 60 percent.
From Los Angeles, discounted flights are available to Salt Lake City, Seattle, Anchorage, Boise, Portland, Spokane, Bellingham, Zihuatenejo, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Manzanillo. Again, the discounts range from 20 percent to 60 percent.
And so on. Not all routes are included, but plenty are. And the discounts range from merely decent to outright compelling.
Buy Miles Bonus
Still short of Mileage Plan miles, even after factoring in the discounts? Through October 14, purchased Alaska miles will come bundled with bonuses of up to 40 percent more miles, as follows:
- 20% bonus for purchasing 5,000 - 19,000 miles
- 30% bonus for purchasing 20,000 - 34,000 miles
- 40% bonus for purchasing 35,000 - 40,000 miles
So, for example, purchasing 35,000 miles will net an extra 14,000 miles with the bonus.
